Sponsoring Prayers or Offering Ceremonies can be done with a wide range of motivations. However, in the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition, offering ceremonies are performed starting with the motivation to benefit all beings. Naturally, we ourselves are included in such a vision and so by dedicating the prayers widely and then towards specific individuals helps us attain the two benefits of self and others.

Prayers can be done for a wide range of needs and situations. If you are not supporting a prayer or offering ceremony based on the instruction of a Lama, it may be helpful to have a divination completed to determine the proper course of action to be taken.

Ceremonies can be completed through a few avenues:

  1. Lama Rangbar and his assistants performs the prayers or activities at our center.

  2. The prayers and activities are accomplished at a location of the host’s choice

  3. Larger offering ceremonies can be arranged by Lama Rangbar and supported through our affiliate centers and Lamas in Asia.

 Process and what to expect?

For prayers it is good to give the beneficiary’s name, date of birth and a brief description of the reason. Lama will work with you to decide which prayers or if simple general prayers should suffice. For offering ceremonies, if determined you will host an event, you could be called upon to collect certain types of offerings such as juniper greens, wood for a fire, grains and herbs, and other substances. You may have to ready a fire pit, or have certain vessels ready etc. Ceremonies can range in length from a morning to several days but are typically a morning and afternoon session with a break for lunch. You will likely have opportunity to participate in the liturgy and activities as well.

How do you support Prayers or an Offering Ceremony?

Since Lamas are already praying daily for the welfare of all beings, those wishing specific actions from the Lamas should support all aspects of their personal requests. Sponsors should cover all transport and materials costs if needed, and make offerings to the lamas to form a material linkage to the process. Generally a conversation with Lama Rangbar’s assistant can help determine the scope and effort involved in the activity.
